Premier League Team Of the Season 2019/20

Premier League season 2019/20 has ended with Liverpool winning their first ever Premier League title. The 30 years old long wait was finally over when Chelsea beat Manchester City. Confirming that Liverpool are official champions. Other than Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.F.C qualified for the UEFA Champions League next season. Although this season it was not a breathtaking title race but the battle for the top 4 finish surely gave us very exciting moments. Leicester City along with Tottenham Hotspurs qualified for the UEFA Europa League next season. While recently promoted Norwich City along with the Cherries (A.F.C.Bournemouth) and Watford were relegated. After a really long season here is how the Premier League Team Of the Season 2019/20 looks like.

Goalkeeper: Dean Henderson

It was a very tough choice between Manchester City’s Ederson and Burnley’s Nick Pope. Ederson won the Golden Glove award for this season in Premier League keeping 16 clean sheets in 35 appearances. While Nick Pope kept 15 clean sheets in 38 appearances this season. But it was Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson who impressed everyone this season. Although, he only kept 13 clean sheets in 36 appearances. Henderson was consistent for newly promoted Sheffield United’s team. He has 97 saves to his name this season with just one error leading to a goal. Henderson also has conceded 33 goals. Which is best after Manchester City’s Ederson.

Left Back : Andrew Robertson

Andrew Robertson was very impressive this season. One of the main reasons to the Liverpool’s title victory. Without a doubt he was the best Left Back in the Premier League this season. The Scottish international not only was impressive defensive but was also phenomenal in the offense. He provided 12 assists this season and also scored two goals. He is the third highest assist provider this season. Providing assists more than any other midfielder except Kevin De Bruyne.

Centre Back : Chris Basham

Tottenham Hotspurs, Chelsea, Arsenal all struggled defensively this season. Manchester United’s star defender Harry Maguire wasn’t impressive this season. Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte suffered injury blow and missed most of the season. Except Liverpool none of the top 6 teams in the Premier League were impressive defensively. But Sheffield United were stunning defensively for a newly promoted team. They kept 13 clean sheets and only conceded 39 goals (4th lowest) this season. The main reson for their success was their Keeper Dean Henderson and the two centre backs Chris Basham and John Egan. Both centre backs were magnificent and almost similar in stats but Chris Basham edged his teammate. Chris Basham kept 12 clean sheets with a successful 56% tackles (more than Virgil van Dijk). Although he only had one assist, but was a rock defensively.

Centre Back : Virgil van Dijk

It would be a crime to leave out Virgil van Dijk out of the team for this season. Without a doubt the best defender in Premier League this season. He didn’t miss any games for Liverpool this season in Premier League keeping 15 clean sheets. He was also good offensively. Van Dijk scored five goals this season and also provided one assist. With his height he is also good in the air winning most of the aerial battles. He is one of the main reasons for Liverpool’s success in recent years.

Right Back : Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold, just the 21 years old has had a dream start to his career. He has played UEFA Champions League final twice, winning it once and also has won the Premier League. He is one of the best, if not best “offensive fall back” in the world right now. Trent Alexander-Arnold has 13 assists to his name this season. Second highest in the league this season behind Kevin De Bruyne. He has also scored some of the best free-kick goals this season. Trent was not only good offensively but also completed his defensive duties. He has a spectacular successful tackle of 62%. And was also named Premier League Player of the Month in December. Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka also had a great first season at Manchester defensively but lacked offensively.

Central Midfielder : Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson is the first captain to win the Premier League for Liverpool. He was a perfect example of captain leading from the front. In his 30 appearances this season in Premier League, Liverpool have won 27 times. Scoring four goals and providing four assists. Controlling the game, Henderson completed 1,856 passes and created nine big chances. Liverpool has a very good record when he starts for the team.

Central Midfielder : Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne had one of the best seasons of his career. He has provided 20 assists this season. Only second player to cross the 20 assist mark in a season other than Thierry Henry. De Bruyne also scored 13 goals this season including a stunning volley against Newcastle United winning his first Goal of the month award for this season. The Belgium international has also created the most big chances this season (33). He is a complete midfielder with accurate through ball passes, good passing accuracy, goals, assists, crosses, free-kicks literally everything. Arguably the best midfielder in the world right now.

Central Midfielder : Bruno Fernandes

It was a little harsh to leave out Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish. But Bruno Fernandes has not only been impressive individually but also has changed Manchester United’s mentality. He has been the most important factor for Manchester United finishing in top four this season. Bruno joined the Manchester club in January in winter transfer from Sporting Club. Since then, he has 15 goal contributions in 14 appearances for Manchester United. Scoring eight goals and providing seven assists. In just half season he has won back to back Premier League Player of the Month award in February and June (Premier League paused due to COVID-19). His performance has also had a positive impact on other Manchester United players. Since joining the club, Manchester United are on a 14 games unbeaten run. It is only fair to include him ahead of Jack Grealish.

Left Wing : Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang was the only player who has had a good season for Arsenal. Missing out the Premier League Golden Boot award by just one goal to Jamie Vardy. The Gabon international was consistent throughout the season for Arsenal. He is the main reason for Arsenal’s success in winning the Emirates FA Cup this season. Scoring a brace in semi-final and final against Manchester City and Chelsea respectively. He has scored 22 goals this season providing three assists for Arsenal. With his impressive performance for Arsenal he is selected in the Premier League Team Of the Season 2019/20.

Centre Forward : Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy and Leicester City had a wonderful first half of the season. But somehow lost the momentum in the later half. They dropped 34 points since January in 18 games. It was for this reason they lost out on the top 4 battle to Manchester United and Chelseas.F.C. Despite poor performance in the second half of the season, Jamie Vardy won the Premier League Golden Boot this season with scoring 23 goals. It is his first Golden Boot award despite having a magical season in 2015/16 where he went on a scoring streak. He went on to score atleast one goal in record breaking 11 consecutive matches.

Right Wing : Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane has had a great season for Liverpool. He has scored 18 goals this season providing seven assists. He was the attacking force for Liverpool along with Mohamed Salah. Although, both have similar stats in Premier League this Season, Mane edges Mohamed Salah in the overall performance. It is quite a debate whether to include Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah. Mane has also won the Premier League Player of the month award in November this season.
