The Premier League Match Day 38 started off with three teams fighting for two UEFA Champions League positions. With all games playing simultaneously on the last Premier League Match Day of the season. Manchester United, Chelsea and Leicester City battled for the top 4. Just 1 point separating these three teams, and Leicester City playing against Manchester United, it was always going to be heated battle for the top 4.
Having equal points and same Goal Difference on Game Week 36, Leicester City and Manchester United were separated by Goals Scored. Going into Game Week 37, both teams dropped points. Tottenham Hotspurs defeating Leicester City by 3-0 and West Ham United held Manchester United for a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Both teams dropping points. Chelsea.F.C had a great opportunity to go few points ahead in the heated top 4 battle. But standing in there way were the champions Liverpool at Anfield. As they battled in a very exciting game and surely one of the best game of this season. Chelsea had to suffer a 5-3 defeat at the home of the champions.
Premier League Match Day 38 : Leicester City vs Manchester United
Leicester City hosted Manchester United at the King Power Stadium. The match had a pretty slow start but things began to get interesting. At the 31st minute Paul Pogba provided a super lobbed through ball to which Bruno Fernandez controlled it beautifully and put it in the back of the net, but he was in the offside position during the run. As a result the goal was disallowed.
Very next minute Tielemans came close to score for the Foxes. He took a cheeky shot at the bottom left corner but was just wide. Rashford went close to break the deadlock but was denied by Kasper Schmeichel. A wonderful save at the near post in the added time of the first half. Jamie Vardy hit the post at the 59th minute of the game, the closest Foxes had come to score in this match.
Anthony Martial won the penalty for Manchester United. He got in between two tackles from either side by Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan. Bruno Fernandes converted the penalty sending Kasper Schmeichel in the wrong direction.
The game had a very dramatic end, when Jonny Evans got a red card for a harsh foul on Scott McTominay in the injury time. Kasper Schmeichel’s error given away the ball to Jesse Lingard who scored his first goal of the Premier League this season at the very last minute of the final match.
Manchester United win 2-0 at the King Power Stadium and securing their Champions League spot. In addition, Chelsea won comfortably against Wolves and hence, Leicester City were out of top 4.
