Manchester United had a mixed last season. They started great by defeating Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford in the opening game of the Premier League season 2019/20. However, later they went on to win only one game in their next eight Premier League fixtures. Manchester United was inconsistent throughout the first half of the season. They won against the former champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium but would go on to lose against Watford which was in the relegation zone.
Later, after bringing in Bruno Fernandes at a transfer fee of £67.6 million from Sporting CP in the winter transfer. Manchester United somewhat had gained their momentum. Although, he played a big part in helping Manchester United reach the semi-finals in three competitions. The Carabao EFL Cup, UEFA Europa League, and the Emirates FA Cup. However, Manchester United failed to win in any of the three semi-finals. They finished their Premier League season in top 4 on the final match-day defeating Leicester City 2-0.
Manchester United planned to bring in Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. Jack Grealish had an impressive season for his club. He helped Aston Villa to get out from the relegation zone and to stay in the Premier League. His performance has caught the eyes of many big clubs who want him in their squad. Jack Grealish was also called for England’s national squad in the upcoming UEFA Nations League. However, the Red Devils failed to sign him as well as Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. Sancho’s current teammate Erling Haland was also linked with Manchester United during the winter transfer window in December. The club failed to sign him and Erling Haland went to the German club Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United linked with Donny van de Beek
The Red Devils are linked with Ajax’s mid-fielder Donny van de Beek. According to many sources from England, it is said that Donny van de Beek has completed his medical for Manchester United. However, we are yet to hear it officially from the club and the player. But was it necessary for Manchester United to bring in another mid-fielder when they already had the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic? How will Donny van de Beek will fit in the squad for the Manchester club?

Donny van de Beek playing style
Donny van de Beek made his debut against Celtic in the UEFA Europa League fixture in 2015. He is an attacking midfielder who likes to create open spaces for the wingers. However, after Frenkie de Jong’s move to F.C.Barcelona, he had to play a deeper role. Sometimes as a defensive midfielder, sometimes also as a box to box role. He is excellent in off the ball movements and often likes to go behind the defenders and create a goal-scoring opportunity.
Donny van de Beek is an excellent passer of the ball. His vision and awareness on the field make him dangerous when providing the through balls for the attackers. He also has a great link-up play between his teammates, always looking for an unmarked teammate to pass the ball. van de Beek along with his playmaking ability is also a good goalscorer. He has scored 41 goals for Ajax in his 175 appearances also providing 34 assists. Mostly playing as an attacking midfielder at the club.
How will he fit in Manchester United squad
Donny van de Beek will surely be a great addition in Manchester United’s squad. United can play a 4-2-1-3 formation with Bruno Fernandes as an attacking midfielder with Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek behind him. Although van de Beek’s style of play is as an attacking midfielder but with Bruno Fernandes in the squad, it is highly unlikely for him to replace the Portuguese midfielder. Instead, Donny van de Beek can play as a box to box player as he did at Ajax in the previous season after Frenkie de Jong’s departure. Paul Pogba as a controlling midfielder, Bruno Fernandes as an attacking midfielder, and Donny van de Beek playing box to box, it will be a lethal midfield trio. However, Manchester United will have to compromise in the defense as they will miss a proper defensive midfielder like Nemanja Matic.

Although it is not yet official neither from the club or the player that he will be joining the Red Devils. However, it is very likely that it will be announced in coming days. What do you guys think, will Donny van de Beek be a great addition in the Manchester United’s squad? Or it is not necessary for the club to sign him.
